“Can’t repeat the past?… Why of course you can!” ― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

Proms Roaring 20s

This year’s prom theme was the Roaring 20s inspired by the book The Great Gatsby. “Even though not all went with the theme, overall almost everyone loved it. “I think it’s a classy theme, and it gives a lot of flexibility for the outfits and the decorations.” said Laylia Wright.

The Great Gatsby is a book written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925. The book itself is about a mysterious man named Jay Gatsby who is a self-made millionaire, and who is in pursuit of a girl from his past whom he had fallen in love with. The story itself is narrated by Nick Carraway the “main character.” Nick tells the story of Gatsby, how he had thrown all these amazing parties and how everyone from the city would come to them. Those parties are what the theme of prom is inspired by.

One of the most important parts of prom is getting ready. You can’t just go to prom not ready. And getting ready can be super fun, whether you’re with friends or by yourself. It allows you to see yourself all dressed up and nice. “The process is typically the same as everyone else. I do my hair. While that settles, I do my makeup, put the dress on, and do final touch-ups. The dress that I wore is called a Lengha, an Indian dress that I got it from a mutual friend.” said Bhavjeet Kaur.

At prom, there were good food options and even ice cream. SBOs provided a photo booth, and the pictures were free. “I danced till my feet couldn’t handle it anymore,  anyways definitely recommend bringing extra shoes if you have uncomfortable heels, The music was really fun. Props to Mr. Pickett the DJ for sure.” Faith Serio stated.

After prom, most attendees went to get ice cream or just went home. But overall it was a great day for many who went. “Prom was fun, and to be honest, time moves too fast to be awkward and stand or sit in the corners of the walls at prom you might as well get up and dance and have a good time cause you’re only gonna be in that exact moment once in your life so you might as well make the most of it and have some good memories.” said Julius Zamora.
