Cadets first impressions of the new business teacher, Mr. C: He has a lot of sass.
During one class period, Mr. C shouted “Shut up!” followed by a warm, caring smile… “Thank you guys!” Mr. Crisanto has made himself at home here at UMA.
Mr. Crisanto was born in the Philippines, moving at the age of 4 to Salem, Oregon. “If I had the option to move back, I would. I enjoy the great scenery, the location, and the trees. It’s the great Northwest.”
He originally went to school for business, however, he always had a passion for teaching since he was 13. He later went to BYU and then transferred to UVU due to the Business and Education degree.
He taught high school at Taylorsville High and Granger High in Salt Lake. However, he wasn’t making enough money there. After 2 years of teaching Taylorsville High and Granger High, Mr. Crisanto took a job selling life insurance. That job fortunately gave him and his family the chance to travel to Hawaii, Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah. Prior to completing education degree, he started a startup with a friend, working in the Philippines and ran a big call center.
“It was really fun! But I’ve always known I want to be a teacher.”
In 2023, he got back into teaching. “I had a very good friend of mine that reached out to me and said,’Hey, Crisanto, I have this position at this middle school. Do you want to take it?’ And I absolutely jumped into it… I haven’t been this happy these last few years compared to now.”
In West Jordan, Mr. C decided that he needed a place with a more strict educational environment. He also wanted to get back into teaching high school. “I’m happy I can share my education with you guys.”
For those who have Mr. C, they will quickly realize his approach… Mr. C gives a sassy attitude. “I’m a big goofball. Over time, I have learned when to get serious, but I personally can’t be serious all the time. In my classes, I have a rule where you are more on task then not on task. If you are more on task, you can have time to goof off. Along with the sass, it gives me time to be strict but not harsh.”
Students are enjoying Mr. C’s time here so far. “To me, Mr. C’s teaching method is refreshing compared to other teachers I have. It’s simple to follow and helps keep the class on track.” stated Gabriel Brown.
“I want my students to succeed. I want them to come to me in future years and tell me their successes. I’m just hoping something sticks with you and you gain the confidence for that.”
Mr Crisanto expects students to operate at a higher level than they expect themselves. Everyone has the potential to do their expectations as long as they motivate themselves to. “It is at a higher level then they have been accustomed to and how they expect themselves to.”
Getting to know Mr. C, he has many hobbies. He likes to box, to coach boxing, to enjoy spending time with his family. He also enjoys Chick Fil A and lemon bars.” As long as it is a #1 Chick Fil A meal with 2 Chick Fil A sauce and a medium sprite, I will consider you my favorite at the time.”
