To be a permanent substitute for a teacher is no easy feat. Luckily for UMA, Dr. Dean Nichols has risen up to the challenge. Working as one of the science teachers, he easily slides into place with the help of his Bachelors in Biology and Pharmacology.
He graduated from Utah Valley University and Roseman University of Health Sciences with his two degrees, venturing into Utah after coming from Long Beach, California. “After subbing at UMA a few times,” Dr. Dean said, “I really liked the culture and the attention to detail by quite a few of my students, which ultimately made me want to teach here.”
Stepping into the position of the science teacher after Mr. Gabriele left is not an easy task to accomplish. “[Dr. Dean] has adjusted well,” one of his students, Aliyah Reynolds said. “Regarding what little he was left with, the transition was rocky but overall doable.”
Students are fitting in well with his personality and his stories, and have adjusted to the new atmosphere that Dr. Dean brings. His life outside of UMA is just as interesting, as a divorced dad of three grown children, an avid skateboarder and snowboarder since a young age, and one who enjoys cooking and competitive sports.
So now he’s here to stay, enjoying his teachings in anatomy class above all due to his fascination with the functions of the human body. Teaching Chemistry, AP Biology, Anatomy, and other various science classes, it’s an unanimous agreement that Dr. Dean will be able to fit in just well with UMA.
