
UMA has gained many new teachers this year, but one has stood out to some more than the rest. Introducing the new Language Arts teacher, Mrs. Schlegelmilch, who teaches Language arts 11, AP. Language arts, and Japanese.
As a teacher, she has many goals that she wants for each one of her students she teaches. She wants the students this year, as a teacher, to get into reading and be more familiar with writing. Shcleglemilch’s goals are simple: “…learn the material and show them what they know through assessments and also to have fun.”
Mrs. Shcleglemilch does various after school activities across a couple subjects. “I do Japanese club on Tuesdays and ACT prep on Thursdays.” where the ACT prep is preparing juniors for the ACT test and to work on skills they need to work on. She said. The Japanese club is learning about Japanese culture and language, where the ACT prep is preparing juniors for the ACT test and to work on skills they need to work on.
She talks about why she wanted to be a teacher and why she loves teaching. She said, “I come from teachers, so I was familiar with it, and I love students.” She also talks about what inspired her to be a language arts teacher. She said, “I really like reading and it has been my biggest motivation.”
Shcleglemilch said, “I am always reflecting on my lessons and what went well as a teacher and have the lessons more effective.” As a Language Arts teacher, they are always reflecting back on the lessons they were taught and finding a way to include it into their lessons.

Mrs. Schlegelmilch started her teaching career after she graduated college. She went to multiple colleges that helped her learn to teach kids and helped her with her understanding of teaching Language Arts. She said, “I went to the University of Delaware, I got my masters degree in Japanese at University of Calgary, and teaching certification in teaching from University of Guam; then went to western governor’s.”
Into the next topic, Mrs. Shleglemilch also talks about her hobbies and what she likes to do. She said, “I like to hang out with my kids and walk my dog, and I love to exercise and I love to read.”
