The Carter Arts

UMA’s Art Teacher an Inspiration
The+Carter+Arts

“Fear is inevitable, and it’s always going to be scary. But, the gratification and watching yourself create and succeed outweighs the fear,” stated Mrs. Carter. Mrs. McKayla Carter, the Bravo flight advisor is most importantly UMA’s Head of the Art department. And she can conquer anything.

Mrs. Carter has been UMA’s art teacher for 7 years and counting. She teaches Portrait and Figure drawing, Drawing 1 and Drawing 2, CE Art, Watercolors, Art History, Sculptures, Studio Art, and JH Watercolors.

From the beginning, Mrs. Carter has always been involved with art. She started professionally doing art at the age of 16. She said, “I live, breathe, drink, and sleep art. My living room is my personal studio.”

Mrs. Carter got the inspiration to teach art to others because of her high school art teacher. “She was unique and showed me that there was potential in my art. I want to give motivation to others. My favorite part of teaching is when my students have the satisfaction of success with their project.”

“Every class is designed for you to succeed.” As mentioned above, Mrs. Carter teaches a wonderful selection of classes. Her favorite class, however, is her new CE Art class. “It has more opportunities to dig deeper into the art style’s origins. It’s fun to see the education and facts on a higher level of education. “

Mrs. Carter demonstrates the next assignment to the class.

Outside of school, Mrs. Carter is involved with the UAEA connect, an art community that gets together and critiques each other’s art projects. She is also a part of the Gallery 25 Resident Artists, where she has her own booth and is actively presenting and selling her work. It’s also easy to find her at the Ogden Art show during the summer.
